With the passing of another election season, citizens of Athens are facing the future leaders of the city. With the buzz of the campaigns finally dying down, the time has come for them to assess the concerns at hand once again.
I would like to expand upon the editorial entitled Dollar Disposal which appeared in the Wednesday, Nov. 7, edition of The Post. I believe that the Dining Dollar program was misguided, considering that upperclassmen paid the same fee as freshman for the new Baker University Center without receiving the benefit of the Dining Dollars program. I find it very puzzling that so much money was wasted on Dining Dollars when there were much more equitable and cost-effective options available to generate interest in the new food court. I believe it would have been much more sensible to offer a discount to student employees and university faculty and staff. This way, West 82 could have been popularized through word of mouth without having to give away what basically amounted to free food. As a student employee at Alden Library, I believe that a discount for university employees at university-run food establishments is long overdue. Since the closure of the Oasis, which offered a variety of tasty options at more reasonable prices than West 82, student workers and full-time staff at Alden Library have been faced with limited options for a quick and inexpensive meal close to work. Frequently we find ourselves with West 82 as our only option for a quick lunch or dinner because of the irregular operating hours of Caf+
