Strickland's in: Athens' rep provides Democrats with credible gubernatorial pick

The collective eye of Ohio Democrats -and even many Ohio Republicans -is currently on U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, D-Lisbon, and his entrance into the gubernatorial race of 2006. In an apparent change of heart Strickland, who represents much of Athens County in Washington, announced yesterday that he is making a bid for the Democratic nomination for governor against Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman and Lee Fisher, the party's nominee in 1998. Although it is too early to speculate on who will win the party's nomination, it is clear that Strickland would be the best candidate for Democrats to throw their support behind.

Perfect Mother's Day gift: Tell Mom what she wants to hear

Sunday is Mother's Day. The only reason you have made it this far is because of a little lady we all like to call Mom. So now it's time to pay up and show your appreciation. Government review could undermine NPR

For years, when I thought about public radio, the only notions I could muster usually related to obscure classical music, droning voices and that cheesy All Things Considered music. The local station bored me -until I actually started paying attention to the news reports and feature stories.

Letter: Alaska's last refuge needs protection

To compare the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to the back of the moon -as some pro-drilling Senators recently have -is like comparing death and life. The Arctic Refuge is one of the last places on Earth with all of its original inhabitants still intact. All the plants and animals that were there are still there, making it among the most important areas in the world to protect.
