Football: Spring practice begins

Spring football practice kicked off yesterday under gray skies, intermittent rain and hail, but the weather might not have been as bleak as what the Bobcats face during their initial preparations for the 2011 season.

Baseball: Young team ignores cold, pushes forward

After Ohio’s 5-4 win against Ball State Saturday, coach Joe Carbone speculated the Bobcats would have to use orange balls in their next game. The forecast in Muncie, Ind., where wind chills dropped to 20 degrees, called for snow during yesterday’s rubber match with the Cardinals.

Softball: Coast trip sees broken records

Just before the Ohio softball team’s California road trip, pitcher and designated hitter Emily Wethington broke the school’s all-time record for strikeouts. On the last day of the trip, in the first game of a double-header, the senior broke the all-time record for career home runs.

Baseball: Pitchers duel in Muncie

For the first time this season, Ohio took a road trip headed in a direction other than south. The change in temperature caused Ohio and Ball State’s bats to head south, too.
