The Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a disagreement between a man and his landlord. The man stated his landlord was confronting him about guests staying with him and threatened to evict the tenant. Though there was nothing criminal nor a criminal charge, the tenant wanted the information documented.

She’s accrued over 2.6 million followers on Twitter, just recently published a book and is the founder of Blexit, an organization aimed at persuading Black voters to leave the democratic party. While Candace Owens may be a favorite amongst white conservatives -- don’t be fooled -- she’s no black conservative because her rhetoric is inherently anti-Black.

The nation is in a crisis with no hopes of immediate improvements. Centuries of cries from the disadvantaged and most vulnerable individuals are not heard. In the most recent situation, The Jefferson County grand jury came to the decision to charge former police detective Brett Hankison with three felony counts of wanton endangerment, but not charge any officers with the death of Breonna Taylor. The lack of appropriate charges for all officers involved in the shooting of Breonna Taylor was not surprising, especially considering how history has a way of repeating itself.

The ambition of most intellectual movements is to deconstruct some unjust, antiquated system. Today, the Defund the Police Movement demands the deconstruction of the police state. While deconstruction of unjust systems is a common denominator across many movements, the reconstruction of sustainable alternatives should be equally as common. When movements fail to suggest adequate alternatives, opponents (in this case, Blue Lives Matter) are more empowered to make ill-founded arguments to distract from the necessity of achieving a goal.

Amid an airborne pandemic, some find wearing a mask pointless. Recently, these groups of people were seen marching through a Target in Fort Lauderdale, Florida blaring music and encouraging others to remove their masks. These mask protests are illogical in that they show a disregard for human life, the health and well-being of the population and challenge basic safety.

The Athens Fire Department received a report of a car on fire at Columbus Road and Second Street. The car was at Athens Quick Change and Lube on the corner of the two streets. When AFD arrived, the hood of the car was up and a bystander had poured water on the fire, which extinguished it.
