Legacy: Women of Southeast Ohio, a series of documentary films, is premiering at Stuart’s Opera House on Aug. 27. The documentary showcases the impact of four trailblazing Southeastern Ohio women: Ada Woodson Adams, Francine Childs, Dru Riley Evarts and Carol Kuhre.

Andres Lares, a two-time Ohio University graduate and CEO of Shapiro Negotiations Institute, recently wrote a book called Persuade: The 4-Step Process to Influence People and Decisions. Although Lares wanted to write a book for a long time, he struggled with self-doubt, wondering “Who am I to write a book?” When he began to view writing as an act of service to help others, his goal of creating a book became more approachable. “For the Love of Athens” Photo Contest Gallery Exhibit at 8 a.m., hosted by ARTS/West and the Athens Community Center, 701 E. Coping Clinic: Feel Good Fridays at 11 a.m., hosted virtually by Ohio University’s Counseling and Psychological Services, or CPS. Join CPS for an online, drop-in workshop that offers students creative ways to explore their thoughts and feelings. Resources to practice healthy behaviors will also be presented. Students do not have to be a client with CPS or currently located in the state of Ohio to engage in Coping Clinic workshops.

Pretentious Barrel House, a Columbus-based brewery, recently collaborated with Helping Hops and created two beers to benefit Rural Action. The beers are called Acid to Acid, Rust to Rust and Terra Amar. Each beer was inspired by Rural Action projects: True Pigments and Chesterhill Produce Auction, respectively.

Brown, disability rights advocate, writer and attorney, gave a presentation titled “Weaving Crip, Mad, Queer, Trans Dreams: Disability Justice for Our Classrooms, Our Futures, and Our Freedom” on April 7 at 6:00 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. The event was hosted by Ohio University’s LGBT Center in collaboration with the Women’s Center and the Patton College of Education.
