Containing many music lovers, The Beat section’s members reflected on their favorite albums and the artists who have left a lasting impact on their lives.
As the first week of October wraps, Halloween and fall decor is being added to homes, dorms and businesses on campus, all while groups of friends, couples or individuals are preparing to assemble maybe either their first Ohio University “HallOUween” costumes, or sadly, their last.
Summer was the bane of everyone's existence as a child. Between lemonade stands and swimming so long that one begins to prune, the season was a time of simplicity. Though there is a certain degree of nostalgia associated with summertime, it is candidly not the same as it once was. Now, summer can be seen as something to dread. For students at Ohio University, it means leaving behind the beloved city of Athens for three whole months and all of the people who make it so special.
The only thing that makes midterms better is knowing spring break is at the end of it all. It’s our ray of sunshine at the finish line. Whether you're jet-setting to a beach location or chilling at home, spring break is the time to put your feet up and take a load off. You know you deserve it!
When it comes to the season of love, each year is different, depending on who you are spending it with. While those special someones may come and go, romantic comedies are always a constant. Christmas break is the time of year to kick back, forget about classes, drink hot chocolate and, yes, watch all the holiday movies we possibly can in the span of a few weeks. Nothing beats the feeling of turning on Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas special and seeing your favorite movie airing on TV or watching the 24-hour Christmas Story marathon on TBS.
Just before the end of the semester, we break for a brief intermission at home to have a peaceful week surrounded by loved ones. When it comes to Thanksgiving, it’s time to rejoice with hometown friends, watch holiday movies and, yes, bask in all the food comas.
Halloween signifies the return of all horror villains that we have either grown up watching or become newly acquainted with. From Frank-N-Furter to Michael Myers, it’s the horror genre’s most famous terrorizers that make this season all the more spooky.
When you graduate from Ohio University, you leave with new skills to help you succeed in the real world, a degree to show for all the hours of hard work, a sense of relief that you finally have reached the finish line of school … and an obsession with Bagel Street Deli (a liking that proves you're a well-seasoned OU alum).
Having summertime is blissful in itself, but pairing it with the right song can make it feel like magic. When caught up in the heat of the summer, the perfect sun-soaked anthem is one that can play over and over without hesitance, has a backbone that can withstand the highest of energies and the chillest of vibes, while also being a song that feels like utter sunshine.
For a lot of us, music is our guiding light, our be-all and end-all, our way of life. For others, it merely acts as white noise to drown out the unbearable silence. No matter what it does for you, it’s impossible to deny that life feels incomplete without it.
