The city of Athens pays its elected officials more than other similarly sized college towns do, but the top salaries of other cities’ appointed officials dwarf those of Athens.
John Schmieding’s welcome response to my letter outlines his reasons for supporting Obama and why such support is vital. His case, as I understand it, is that a Romney administration would have a lot of negative consequences. I agree with this point, and I would prefer Obama assume the presidency over Romney. That doesn’t mean I want Obama to take office — I don’t. That’s in part because a lot of the reasons John provides to make us fear Romney apply to Obama too.
Saturday’s win against Division II Mercyhurst College was impressive in the respect that Ohio almost doubled the Lakers’ shooting percentage and points scored.
Each year, 1,000 people die from not finding a bone marrow match that could potentially cure a fatal illness. With only 2 percent of the population registered nationally to give marrow, Hillel is seeking to increase registration with a drive Monday.
In this presidential election, we face a choice between American democracy as we have known it — with the hope of moving forward to more equality of opportunity (represented by President Obama) — and plutocracy: government by the most wealthy individuals and corporations (represented by Mitt Romney). Ohio is the most crucial swing state in this election: It is the state with the highest relative likelihood that an individual voter would determine the Electoral College winner (http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/). With so much at stake, we all must make sure to vote.

Entering Saturday’s match, Central Michigan was the only Mid-American Conference team Ohio had not beaten, and despite a thrilling five-set match, the Bobcats’ 12-match winning streak has been snapped.
Ohio’s club hockey team was blown out Friday night for the first time in almost three years, but the tenacity that has driven the team to stay in the upper echelon of the league rankings through the early part of the season helped the Bobcats even the series with a Saturday night win against Illinois.

Ladies! Listen up. It should come as no surprise that women will decide this election. That’s why we’re seeing strong mothers, daughters, wives, sisters and friends coming together to do whatever it takes to make sure we can continue to strengthen the middle class and keep America moving forward.
Gov. Mitt Romney is the only choice for a prosperous future. He represents the values and ideas that have made this country great. This election is the most important that we have faced in our short lives; it could have devastating effects for our future if we choose to go down the wrong path.

Many students learned about the Great Pumpkin and the Easter Beagle from Charlie Brown and his friends, but now they might be learning a few more mature things from the Peanut’s character.
I’m writing in response to the letter from Stephen Pearson that appeared in Wednesday’s Post. Stephen writes eloquently about his choice to vote for a third-party candidate. I agree with much of what he says, and I probably agree even more with many of his views on policy. Yet I believe that voting for a third-party candidate is not the most effective use of our voting rights.
