Post Editorial: Rewarding RAs

Slowly but surely, Ohio University Residence Life is increasing compensation for resident assistants, those dedicated souls who forfeit their ability to celebrate Halloween and unlock doors at 3:30 a.m. for freshmen who lose their keys. This year, RAs saw a 14 percent increase in their room discounts, amounting to 84 percent of costs, thanks to investments from Vision Ohio and Residence Life's auxiliary budget.

Stars Make Teen Comedy Appealing

In preparation for the Oct. 17 release of Sex Drive, I took part in a telephone conference with three of the film's stars ' Josh Zuckerman, Amanda Crew and Clark Duke. The movie is about Ian (Zuckerman), who goes on a road trip to meet his Internet dream girl, who may or may not be who she claims, with Crew and Duke as his two best friends. I've seen the trailer and some clips, and wrote it off early as just another teen sex farce in which the somewhat-nerdy nice guy realizes the girl he really wants is the girl that's been in front of him the whole time.

Fat dolphins

Apparently, obesity is not just a problem in the humanworld. The Associated Press reported a couple of days ago that 19 dolphins in a Tokyoaquarium are on a diet because they have gotten too fat. The dolphins were eating too much mackerel, which has a lot of fat andcalories, and gained as much as 22 pounds. This caused them to developpot bellies and start acting sluggish during their performances. To help get the dolphins slim and trim again, trainers have them on a lowfat diet of white fish and put them on a routine exercise program.Hilarious.

A Hard Left Hook: McCain's record fueled economic catastrophe

Republican presidential candidate John McCain may say that he is for regulation of Wall Street, but don't be fooled: He has been the champion of financial deregulation in the Senate. In 1999, McCain voted for a bill that removed the barriers between financial institutions so that investment, banking and insurance could enjoy more market freedom. Those barriers were put into place after the Great Depression to ensure that another economic calamity would not occur. But disaster has occurred as a direct result of McCain's 1999 vote. That bill, by the way, was sponsored by McCain's former campaign chairman Phil Gramm who insisted that we are in a mental recession and said that we have become a nation of whiners.

The Other Side: More funding not fix for public school problems

It's great that Barack Obama is promising to support the expansion of charter schools if he's elected in November. While he's at it, can liberals officially dispense with the myths that America's education system is underfunded, teachers are underpaid, and the best way to improve public schools is to keep throwing money at them?

Your Turn: Senate caters to OU administration, not student body

During the Student Senate elections last year, our newly elected president, Michael Adeyanju, said that it was his goal to bring the Student Senate body together no matter what the outcome. Unfortunately, Michael spoke with a corpse in his mouth.-

Demi Lovato continues to up the cred of Disney artists

I've been on a Disney kick lately, I admit it. But this is because somehow real musicians have emerged from the bubblegum splattered walls of Hollywood Records. First the Jonas Brothers surprised us with a genuine early rock record, then The Plain White T's showed the sophistication of the older artists at that label. When you hear of Demi Lovato, don't even think of Hannah Montana. If you haven't heard of her, ask your younger relatives about a little made-for-TV jaunt called Camp Rock. Then prepare for the excited chatter that follows. But that's where the Disney princess part of her ends, apparently.

Pop my culture: Walmart a necessary evil for those on tight budget

These days, every counter-culture advocate has something negative to say about Wal-Mart. With favorite businesses shutting down because of the arrival of the corporate giant, the progressive has leaned toward one objective ' hate Wal-Mart and all its evil.
