Your Turn: Sexual violence prevention conference coming to OU

According to research from Ohio University's Psychology Department's Laboratory on Sexual Assault Prevention (2007) in one academic quarter, 1 in 35 Ohio University women were raped and 1 in 8 experienced another form of sexual assault. You need only to speak with our local domestic violence shelter and with the numerous social workers, counselors, educators and psychologists in the area to learn that sexual and intimate partner violence plague our community, as well as our nation.

Your Turn: Trash ruins OU's beautiful campus

This is not a fun letter to write. I am a former student and the son of an OU graduate and former member of the Board of Trustees. I had six siblings of 11 brothers and sisters attend OU. Five nieces and nephews and all three of my children are Bobcats. This past weekend my wife and I visited Athens and I was embarrassed at the amount of trash in the street, lawns and sidewalks. Was there a festival, home game or migration from another MAC school that would explain such filth? Nope. Was there a riot, sanitation strike or nuclear attack? Sorry.

Your Turn: Exercise right to vote in all local, state races, not just presidential elections

It's unavoidable. Even if you have been living under a rock, you know we have a presidential election this year. The signs are here even if you haven't been asked about your voter registration (and you have); you've still seen the debate, advertisement, blog, poll, bumper sticker or presentation within the last 24 hours. So instead of going on a tangent about how this is the biggest presidential election you will ever see (and it probably is), I'm going to write a word about all the other people on your ballot.

Post Editorial: Security splurge

In August, Ohio University's Ping Recreation Center spent $12,000 on five security cameras. It had already spent about $13,000 to install six cameras in 2006. So at this point, Ohio University has spent about $25,000, or a little more than the cost of eight quarters of tuition.
