Your Turn: Invitation-only Chipotle is 'elitist'

Yesterday I was surprised to see people eating at Chipotle. As I ventured over with visions of the sweet Mexican ambrosia that is Chipotle cuisine, I was mournfully turned away by the doorman who informed me that it was by invitation only. Instantaneously, I was curious to know who in Athens would merit a special invitation to eat at Chipotle. Furthermore, for what reasons would they turn down a long-time (nearly 10 years), faithful patron of the restaurant? However, those questions are insignificant compared to the disheartening fact that a restaurant claiming Mexicanness would cater to an invitation-only crowd. The Mexican masses that effectuated the first social revolution of the 20th century would cringe at the elitist actions of the Athens Chipotle. Even though I was anxious to have a Chipotle in such close proximity, I am now reconsidering whether I will enter the establishment once the doors open to the plebeian clientele.

Media have double standards about racial bias

Sometimes the media's double standards are too ridiculous to ignore. A few weeks ago, conservative students at UCLA released a recording of a prank phone call they made to Planned Parenthood of Idaho last summer. The student told Autumn Kersey, vice president of development and marketing, that he wanted to make a donation to specifically cover the abortion of an African-American baby ' because, as he said, the less black kids out there

Like You Haven't: OU students 'expect more from UPC'

Our generation is obsessed with celebrities. Television channels, magazines and other media outlets are exclusively devoted to following their every move. People magazine, for example, touts readership of 7.6 million people per month in addition to 803 million pages viewed per month on its online Web site. We are a celebrity-obsessed nation and OU students are no different. Think you disagree? Would we really wear those ugly, '80s-throwback, Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses in neon orange if Lindsay Lohan or Ashlee Simpson would not?

Spring break spent with bodies, broken TV

Well, readers, I've had my much-needed two-week vacation, and now it's time for me to take off my Vacationer Pants and put my Columnist Suspenders back on. Don't ask how the suspenders attach if I'm not wearing pants (hint: it involves quantum mechanics and Erdos numbers). To those of you who only read the print edition of this fine newspaper, you have probably just been shocked by my risqu+
