Your turn: Birthday Party has 'best candidates for the job'

My name is William Hein, and I am the president of the Students for Sensible Drug Policy chapter here at OU. Regarding the re-voting for the Student Senate elections, I want to express my own and SSDP's full support of Will Klatt and The Birthday Party. For those of you who live in Bryan, Bromley, Voigt and Scott Quad, we urge you to vote for them on Tuesday. Will and his party are the best candidates for the job, supporting bad policy change and a fair system of checks and balances. So please, vote for the party that will do the most good here at OU: The Birthday Party.

Homophobia should be as intolerable as racism on campus

In recent years, my alma mater has given me far too little to be proud of. The latest black eye came when I read student Chris Uihlein's brave, yet terribly disappointing, letter in Tuesday's edition of The Post. For being secure in his identity as a gay man and for showing a willingness to reach out and become a more active member of the Ohio University community, he was rewarded with blatant homophobia that has no place at a university that likes to pride itself for its climate of diversity.

International recruitment disturbing

I'm a graduate of a public university in Ohio and found the article in The New York Times last Sunday about overseas agency recruitment for student enrollment rather disturbing.-

Griffith's firing 'uncalled for'

The fact that Miss Griffith was let go because of her column on Wednesday is an unfortunate turn of events. To be honest, I have never agreed with many of her columns, but I must disagree with The Post's course of action. In her column, Miss Griffith may have not mentioned her affiliation to the AAA party, but by doing so it seems as though she has taken the high road in not using her position at The Post as a pedestal from which to advertise herself. It is true that disclosing her affiliation may have made more clear the reason for supporting Michael Adeyanju. In her column, she simply expressed her support of Michael Adeyanju for Student Senate President. This is no different than the editors of The Post endorsing their favorite candidate for the same position.

Fine Arts dean receives positive review despite low faculty feedback

Editor's note: This is the seventh in an eight-part series describing the evaluations of Ohio University deans. Seven of the 10 deans who head OU's colleges were formally evaluated this year and an eighth called for his own review. The College of Fine Arts dean got a positive review from his faculty, staff and provost, but the college had the lowest faculty response rate of any this year.

Your Turn: Homophobia 'still a prevalent problem on this campus'

I want to applaud Mr. Uihlein for his willingness to bring his housing plight to the surface yesterday. Ohio University prides itself on its acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community; however, homophobia is still a prevalent problem on this campus. This is true with closet homophobia: people who will state that they support the LGBT community in public but show their true colors when a situation like Mr. Uihlein's arises. I'm writing this letter to issue my condemnation of Mr. Uihlein's future roommates for their actions and my support for him. Homophobia is nothing to be taken lightly; it is a serious issue that has lasting effects on more than those involved. People need to realize that LGBT community members are just regular people. Homophobic views and prejudices set this country back and unfortunately it is a difficult issue to fight. I'm sorry that I cannot offer Mr. Uihlein more than my support and hopes for a peaceful resolution to his predicament. I can, however, offer this advice to him. Don't feel that this is your fault; you have a right to live where you want and no one has the right to say otherwise. I just hope that other people will be able to realize this.
