Long-form music videos have been around since the late 20th century, with the MTV Video Music Awards bringing recognition to the art in 1991 with Madonna’s video for “The Immaculate Collection.” Since then, many artists have latched onto this concept to expand their musical visions, integrating elements usually found in cinema.
According to its website, Ohio University is home to more than 24,000 students who occupy 8 million gross square feet and over 200 buildings. There are many old and historical buildings on campus, with the oldest being Cutler Hall, constructed in 1816. One group on campus is fighting to preserve these buildings to ensure many students can continue to enjoy them for years to come.

Athens’ Block Party is back for the second year since the COVID-19 pandemic. Many students from Ohio University and other campuses came to celebrate its Halloween festivities.

The year is 1976, two years after the first Halloween block party in Athens, and Jonathan Holmberg is experiencing it for the first time. The crowd sports homemade costumes and, according to Holmberg’s estimation, a third of the people in the crowd are operating on some kind of hallucinogen. The crowd will revel in their inebriated and hedonistic state until midnight when the authorities will arrive to send them all home.

Halloween weekend, underage students will dress in their best costumes, hoping to add the appearance of maturity in age, in eager anticipation of joining the festivities at parties or bars.

The City of Athens has decriminalized marijuana laws since 2017. Now, Ohio might follow its lead as Issue 2 – which will legalize the sale of marijuana for adults who are at least 21 years old and also legalize homegrown plants – will be on the Nov. 7 ballot.
