Hockey: Observations, injury updates from practice

Continuing the early season philosophy of working on their own game and not worrying about the opponent, head coach Dan Morris and the Bobcats spent most of this week’s four practices tweaking the stages of the game that were lacking in last weekend’s 7-2 win over West Virginia.

Hockey: Bobcats ranked 3rd in preseason poll

The American Collegiate Hockey Association released its annual preseason poll yesterday, with Ohio ranked third behind defending national champion Davenport and Lindenwood, last year's other national finalist. Ohio holds the third spot despite recieving zero of the 25 first-place votes, while fourth-ranked Penn State recieved eight. The Bobcats were also ranked third in last year's preseason rankings, a season in which and went on to win the Central States Collegiate Hockey League playoff championship and reach the ACHA national semifinals before losing to Davenport. West Virginia, who the Bobcats will take on tonight in the season opener, start the season ranked 23rd.

Bobcats looking forward to addition of seven-footer in 2013

The Bobcat basketball team will reap the benefits of seven-foot Anthony Allen, a 2013 recruit who verbally committed to Ohio earlier this week and currently plays for College of Southern Idaho, as soon as he sets foot on campus, according to CSI coach Steve Gosar.

Ohio volleyball opens up MAC play with a pair of victories

The Ohio Bobcats volleyball team opened up Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a pair of convincing victories, defeating the Bowling Green State Falcons Friday night and archrival Miami Redhawks on Saturday. There didn’t seem to be any doubt of the final outcome in either match, as a poised and confident Bobcats team jumped out to big leads early in both matches at the Convocation Center.

Tomcats bounce back from week off, take down Miller 67-0

The Trimble Tomcats rolled over rival Miller High School Friday, taking it to the Falcons by a score of 67-0. A mix of the right amount of recuperation last week and a potent offensive attack allowed the Tomcats to cruise to what will likely be their 2011 campaign’s signature win.

Trimble to walk into rivalry game with fresh legs

The Trimble Tomcats are quite possibly the only high school football team in Ohio sitting at 1-2. What may be one of the more unique records in the state didn't come around by choice — the Tomcats were forced to scout Miller and Waterford, their next two opponents, last Friday night instead of making the trip south to Coal Grove due to a meningitis outbreak.
