Guinea pigs are generally regarded as easy-to-care-for pets and are by no means uncommon. What is uncommon, however, is dressing up Guinea pigs in miniature pilgrim and Leonardo da Vinci outfits and posing them for Instagram photos.

In light of the upcoming holiday season, I decided to find a pet Instagram page that tied in with the festivities to come. A sort of mascot of Thanksgiving, turkeys are generally the first animal associated with the holiday. But this turkey won’t be anywhere near a dinner plate this Thursday.

Just as the upcoming holiday season will feature cornucopias and a plethora of food, this week’s Instagram account features a plethora of exotic animals.

For some strange reason, Kiel James Patrick, a preppy jewelry and shoe designer from Rhode Island, has a golden retriever as a non-official face of his brand. He has been featured on the front page of his website, nearly jumping out of a preppy boat being driven by two preppy people.

While squirrels are the star rodents around campus here at Ohio University, another small critter can often also be seen scurrying around: chipmunks. They are often seen as pests due to their tendency to burrow into gardens and yards, but some people choose to keep them as pets.

Chameleons are the lone wolves of the lizard world. According to chameleoninfo.com, they usually keep to themselves, and they are pretty shy. That’s why this week’s Pet Instagram sticks out — Boris and Oliver, (@boristhechameleon) are two chameleons that are friends. While the account is only named after one of them, both chameleons live in the same home and are featured on the page.

Chris Miller descended into a quarry that, when he stood at the bottom, reached several feet higher than his head. Above him, a tree sat on the edge of the quarry with its exposed roots extending down into the bed of flint where others had previously dug into the earth hoping to find a vein of Ohio’s official gemstone in Flint Ridge State Park in Glenford.

While the majority of pet Instagram accounts focus on a sole pet’s life, this week’s account takes a different approach. Goats of Anarchy (@goatsofanarchy) is an account with over 282,000 followers and is run by the owner of a farm in New Jersey. Described as a “special needs baby goat rescue” in the description, the farm serves as a home for abandoned and abused goats, as well as ones with genetic or physical disorders.

Welby (@welbythewallaby), this week’s star, is a wallaby with just over 1,300 followers. Wallabies are in the same family of marsupials as kangaroos, but are much smaller and probably couldn’t beat you up like a kangaroo could.

To avoid straying too far into the realm of bizarre animal Instagram accounts this week, I decided to tone it down with one of my more aesthetically pleasing follows as of late.

Something that’s become apparent while writing this blog is my distinct obsession with wild animals who act domesticated. It’s a strange, almost middle finger to the order of nature. It’s something I neither condone nor condemn, but rather, I choose to act as an impartial observer of this phenomenon.

As a general rule, it’s important to branch out and introduce yourself to new experiences. Pet Instagram Review has failed to branch outside the realm of warm-blooded animals, but that’s about to change this week. You’ve seen plenty of puppies and furry animals, but a change of pace is much-needed.

Pigs have the reputation of being gross animals. They make startling noises, roll around in mud and have big wet noses. However, there have been some studies that indicate they might actually be smart as well.

Sometimes it is important to take a step back and see how far we have come as a species. We’ve made cars that can drive themselves. We've sent humans to the moon, and we've eliminated killer diseases.
